Scott’s Anniversary

The 17th of January 2012 was the one hundredth Anniversary of the day that Captain Robert Scott reached the South Pole, only a few days after Roald Amundsen.

David Vaughan (ice2sea Coordinator) was one of six distinguished speakers at the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI) in Cambridge that day.  His talk covered the progress of science from Scott’s early observations up to present-day programmes like ice2sea which are undertaking work of crucial societal importance.  Attendees at these celebrations included HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Albert of Monaco, and members of Scott’s family.
